Are you getting tired of seeing the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl? Get ready for another helping. The Patrick Mahomes-Andy Reid show is back as the Chiefs Kingdom will play in their fourth Super Bowl in the last five seasons. The Chiefs are the defending champs from last year and entered the season as the Super Bowl betting favorite. However, they had a bit of a bumpy regular season and found themselves as an underdog in the Divisional and Conference Championship round. Even in the Super Bowl, they’re an underdog.
Are they being overlooked and undervalued? Let’s take a closer look at Super Bowl LVIII and see what we should expect for Sunday’s spectacle.
What You Need to Know
Super Bowl LVIII: Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers
When: Sunday, February 11th – 6:40 PM ET
Where: Reliant Stadium – Las Vegas, Nevada
Broadcast: CBS
How the Chiefs Got Here
We can’t really be that surprised that Kansas City made it to this point. After all, they’re the champs, right? At times, it looked dicey, though. The team that had just 11 losses over the last three regular seasons combined had fallen six times in 2024. Their wide receivers had problems with drops. The team went 5-5 in their last 10 games. But when it came time to turn it up a notch, the Chiefs did.
Mahomes is already a Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback and the 28-year-old has stepped up his game in the playoffs. He has completed 68% of his passes with four touchdowns and no interceptions with a quarterback rating of 100.7. That’s not too shabby.
Sunday will be extra special as Taylor Swift and her fans are expected to be watching. The pop star is dating Chief’s tight end Travis Kelce. The ‘Swelce’ relationship has brought an added audience to football. She’ll be flying from Japan overnight just to make it to the Super Bowl in time. While the Chiefs are focused on the big game, Swift being on site just adds to the festivities.
How The 49ers Got Here
The 49ers are itching for some revenge. One of the Chiefs recent Super Bowl wins was against these very same 49ers (in 2020). Is Kyle Shanahan and company going to get some revenge? Or are they again going to get edged out and fall short?
The 49ers are an interesting story as they are led by Brock Purdy, who was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was never expected to be relevant. Not only was he among the best quarterbacks this season, he’s got great character that you have to love. He still lives with a roommate. He still drives his old Toyota Sequoia SUV. I admire a guy like that. He is still very humble – even though he’ll probably get over a hundred million in his next contract.
For him to get that, the 49ers have to deliver. They’ve been viewed as the best team in football throughout most of the season. However, in their last two playoff games, they’ve had to overcome double-digit deficits just to survive. Is that a sign of things to come? They’ll need to be better and sharper to knock off the champs.
Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show
The Super Bowl is a football game but it’s also a big show. There’s the pregame extravaganza, which we don’t care for. There are the expensive (and sometimes funny) ads. And then there’s the halftime show. This year, Usher will be in the spotlight. And there are rumors as to who’ll join him on the field. Could Alicia Keys make an appearance? Or maybe Will I Am? By the way, you can actually bet on things like that. That’s part of what makes Super Bowl betting so much fun. You can bet on which song he’ll start with, how many songs he’ll perform and what guests might make appearances.
Super Bowl Betting Props
What makes the NFL’s championship game so fun to bet on is because not only do the advertisers, teams and performers go all out, so do the sportsbooks. For most football games, you get moneylines, totals and a bunch of props. For the Super Bowl, you’ll be able to bet on practically anything, which is really cool.
Do you think Travis Kelce will propose to Taylor Swift after the game? And what color will the Gatorade bath be for the winning coach? You can even bet on the coin toss: heads or tails. There are literally thousands of things you can wager on covering every single inch of the game. If you’re looking to add some action to Sunday’s game, place a few bets to spice it up.
